One thing that makes the "Blue Forge"
special, is that it is a gasification unit.
The process is described below.
1.) In the primary firebox, the wood goes through
an intense baking process that pulls the gases out
of the wood.
2.) The wood turns to charcoal creating a solid
coal bed.
3.) The charcoal wood burns only at the bottom
of the firebox on a firebrick lined bed.
4.) All of the gases from the wood that naturally
want to go upwards, are forced to go through the
coal bed since there is no upward escape. The gases
being forced down through the coal bed burn, causing
less emissions.
5.) Smoke that does remain after going through
the coal bed is reignited by the secondary air that
is injected into the secondary burn chamber. See
a movie of the secondary burn chamber. This chamber
is accessible from the front of the stove and doubles
as the ash removal area.
